John Carter – Review
John Carter, Civil War vet, fearless leader, alien conqueror, that is who John Carter is. The story begins with a young boy who inherits a substantial amount of property in Virginia from the passing of his uncle. His most valuable possession of his inheritance is his uncles journal and upon reading it, it opens up a whole new world and that’s where the story begins. John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) who is a Civil War Veteran is in search of gold that was believed to be hidden in the mountains of Virginia. His debt has caught up to him and he keeps pushing off his debt collectors with this idea that it was only a matter of time before he found his secrete gold stash.
Upon traveling through the mountainous landscapes of Virginia, he sees a small opening in one of the cliffs. John Carter then explores this opening and not only did he find gold but he was also attacked by some sort of alien entity that he eventually fends off and kills. The alien had a medallion of some sorts around his neck. Carter then inspects the medallion and all of a sudden he is transported to an exotic planet by the name of Barsoom (Mars). He realizes that not only is he the alien on this planet but he also possess special abilities.
In this world there is a battle between the native inhabitants that has been going on for centuries. He is chosen to save this planet from self-destruction with new found abilities matched with his leadership and fearlessness. His job now is to end the war, save the princess and destroy the villains and all their minions. This film has some good action sequences and characters. Disney really brought Edgar Rice Burrough’s characters to life in this film. It has a hero, a princess and a villain. This film overall was a decent watch, it is not a must see by any means but the body of work makes it enjoyable especially for the younger ages.
