Staind – Staind Review
Staind – Staind Review
Staind’s comes back hard with their seventh album in their illustrious career. This album being self titled was probably showing to their fans that they still know how to get heavy and tormented like the old days of Dysfunction.Staind brings back the anger and aggression to prove the point that at times they may hit you on some lighter side of rock but will always bring the emotional onslaught of heavy riffs and chest breaking lyrics by Aaron Lewis himself.
“Wannabe” could have been a great song if they just scrapped the rapping altogether and focused more on melodies in the verse.I love the shredding by Mushok but I never heard Aaron Lewis rap and I hope I never do again.I am accustomed to the heart felt dark lyrics by Mr.Lewis and you get glimpses but again leave the rap element out and the song is killer.
“Throw It All Away” has an original Staind feel to it.
“Eyes Wide Open,” this track opens with Mr.Lewis screaming and you feel your ears pop and all of a sudden you are violently headbanging again to Staind.Bout damn time!!! The build up to the breakdown is everything I wanted it to be.I bet even the other band mates looked at each other and said he has returned.Hands down, my best track on the album, maybe even my best track on the last 4 albums.“Paperwings” should have been the first track on this album. This track punches you dead in the mouth and that’s the way I like albums to be.There is so much emotion on the vocals, guitars and drums on this track.“If there’s no tomorrow, burn your paperwings and say goodbye!!!!!!”
I just recently seen Aaron Lewis in concert and let me tell you, as I looked into the crowd I seen so many people singing the entire songs off the album “Country Boy” and I was thinking to myself, if they only knew how he used to sing and scream I wondered if they would still have been there. This album was a reminder of why I enjoyed their music so much. When he came out with that country album I thought all was lost and started listening to there earlier stuff to remind me of the good times.I will tell you I stopped purchasing the last few Staind albums but after listening to the first release of this album, I went to an actual store and bought it.For all the hardcore Staind fans that were lost during the way, come back because they are waiting but for all the Country Boy fans, we loaned you Aaron Lewis for too long and its time to pay up.
